The first settlers arrived in Peru 20. 000 years ago. The Inca Empire (1.200 AD – 1.500 AD) was the oldest and most important civilization in South America and represents the culmination of a cultural development process that began 5.000 years ago.

Also known as Tahuantinsuyo, the Empire had its origin and capital in Cusco and its domain expanded to Colombia, Chile and Argentina, including the territories of Bolivia and Ecuador as a whole.

The Incas achieved great mastery of their territory and the technique of building large stone-based citadels in harmony with the surrounding landscape. Some examples of this are Machu Picchu, Choquequirao, Sacsayhuamán, among others.

Seductive, shocking and natural, in Cusco, history is alive in its streets, squares, valleys and villages. It amazes its fine engineering of Inca stone that dominates the buildings and enchanting landscapes of the Sacred Valley.

Machu Picchu is an Inca city surrounded by temples, terraces and water channels, built on top of a mountain. Today it is a cultural heritage of humanity because it is recognized as an important political, religious and administrative center of the Inca era and one of the 7 wonders of the world.
